GLOBAL SYMPOSIUM FOR REGULATORS 2024: TRB FOR TRANSFORMATIVE TECHNOLOGIES.

GLOBAL SYMPOSIUM FOR REGULATORS 2024: TRB FOR TRANSFORMATIVE TECHNOLOGIES.

From 1st through the  4th of July 2024, in Kampala (Uganda), telecommunications regulators and world decision-makers gathered for the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-24), organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (TRB) represented Cameroon at the event, where more than 600 participants, including high-level policy-makers and industry leaders, discussed on artificial intelligence (AI), the space economy and climate change.

The regulators stressed the need for an equal and global access to digital services inorder to exploit transformative technologies.
AI, for example, offers benefits such as network planning and prevention of fraud , but also privacy and employment challenges.
The space economy requires cross-sector collaboration to harmonise governance and regulatory standards, ensure cybersecurity, and reduce the digital divide.

Below are some of the recommendations adopted by the stakeholders:
- Encourage collaboration between all stakeholders.
- Apply robust cybersecurity standards.
- Ensure fair and affordable access to technologies.
- Encourage healthy competition and innovation.
- Implement data protection regulations.

These measures aim at ensuring that telecommunications contribute to peace, security and sustainable development.
