STRATEGIC DIALOGUE – TRB & HUAWEI CAMEROON

STRATEGIC DIALOGUE – TRB & HUAWEI CAMEROON

On Thursday, October 8, 2026, the Telecommunications Regulatory Board (TRB) and Huawei Technologies Cameroon Ltd. convened a strategic workshop dedicated to Huawei’s proposals for advancing Cameroon’s digital transformation.

Held in the multipurpose hall of the Platinum Building, the session brought together Professor Justine Diffo née Tchunkam, Chair of TRB’s Board of Directors, alongside several board members and agency directors. Proceedings were chaired by TRB’s Director General, Professor Philémon Zoo Zame, assisted by Deputy Director General Zourmba Aboubakar. Huawei was represented by a delegation of senior technical and commercial executives led by Jeffrey Changjianghui, Deputy General Manager for the CEMAC zone in charge of solutions.

Since establishing its presence in Cameroon in 2005, Huawei has supported numerous flagship projects, including the rollout of fiber optic infrastructure, modernization of security services, and the digitalization of public administration. The company now employs more than 300 staff, three quarters of whom are Cameroonian, and claims to have trained nearly 15,000 students in ICT professions.

During the workshop, Huawei Cameroon outlined its vision for the country’s digital future. Drawing on China’s experience, the strategy emphasizes optimizing nationwide coverage through existing infrastructure, preparing for 5G deployment, and expanding the fiber optic network on a large scale. These structural projects aim to enhance service quality for users and ensure broad access to high speed internet across the population.

Closing the session, Director General Professor Zoo Zame expressed his appreciation to Huawei’s delegation for the quality of their presentation and to all participants for their commitment. Both parties agreed to intensify dialogue and pursue joint reflection in the best interests of Cameroonian consumers.
