TRB AT THE MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS 2026 IN BARCELONA

The Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Board (TRB) is leading a TRB delegation participating in the Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona from March 2 to 5, 2026.
The presence of Professor Philémon Zoo Zame at this major digital gathering in Spain reflects the Board’s firm commitment to playing a leading role, at the national level, in the digital transformation reshaping the global telecommunications landscape.
Organized annually by the GSMA (Global System for Mobile Communications Association), the Mobile World Congress has established itself as the benchmark forum for the telecommunications industry. With more than 109,000 visitors and 2,800 exhibitors from nearly 200 countries at its latest edition, it is far more than a trade fair: it is the place where the major technological directions of the coming decade are negotiated. Governments, regulators, telecom operators, equipment manufacturers, and start-ups come together to share their visions, forge strategic partnerships, and explore innovations capable of reshaping our society.
The 2026 edition places three technological priorities at the heart of discussions:
• 5G and 6G: While 5G is already being deployed on a massive scale across several continents, attention is shifting to the first outlines of 6G standards, which are beginning to take shape with a view to commercialization around 2030.
• Artificial Intelligence: AI is confirmed as an indispensable cross-cutting lever—from intelligent network management to predictive cybersecurity, and the personalization of electronic communication services for users.
• Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite Technologies: These satellite constellations, driven by players such as SpaceX, OneWeb, and Amazon Kuiper, promise to connect the most remote areas of the globe, opening unprecedented opportunities for countries with complex geographies such as Cameroon.
For Professor Philémon Zoo Zame and his team, participation in MWC 2026 is an opportunity to assess global technological advances against the realities and ambitions of Cameroon’s electronic communications market. Fruitful exchanges with peer regulatory institutions, meetings with leading telecom equipment manufacturers, and plenary sessions have all provided valuable opportunities to enrich the Board’s strategic thinking.
At a time when the country aims to strengthen national network coverage, accelerate the deployment of ultra-high-speed broadband, and better regulate the emergence of artificial intelligence within the national digital ecosystem, TRB’s presence in Barcelona conveys a clear message: to anticipate transformations rather than endure them, and to position Cameroon’s regulator as a credible and visionary partner on the international stage.
