QoS, network security and coverage: the Director General of TRB in consultation with the CEOs of MTN Cameroon and Orange Cameroon

On Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Platinum Building, the Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Board (TRB) - Professor Philémon Zoo Zame, chaired a high level working session with the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Cameroon, Wanda Matandela, and the Chief Executive Officer of Orange Cameroon, Patrick Benon. Both CEO’s were accompanied by their close collaborators, while the Director General of TRB was joined by senior officials of his institution.

This meeting forms part of the ongoing dialogue maintained by the regulator with stakeholders in the electronic communications sector. It gave rise to substantive exchanges on several issues of common interest, at a time when service quality (QoS), user experience, network security and equitable access to telecommunications services nationwide remain top priorities.

A major focus of the discussions was QoS delivered by the two operators. The participants reviewed measures already implemented, as well as those recommended, to ensure sustained improvements in network performance, a key requirement for enhancing the experience of Cameroonian subscribers.

Discussions also addressed consultations held with certain government services on telecom network security and subscriber identification. This remains a major concern requiring continued coordination and effective responses from public authorities, TRB and operators.

Finally, the matter of territorial coverage component, was raised by all stakeholders. The Director General reaffirmed the importance of extending network coverage to underserved areas, in strict compliance with existing regulations, with the aim of reducing the digital divide and ensuring that all citizens, wherever they are, have fair access to electronic communications services.

The working session once again demonstrated Professor Philémon Zoo Zame’s commitment to maintaining regular and constructive dialogue with key stakeholders in the telecommunications sector. This consultative approach, which the regulator intends to pursue, remains essential to strengthening the development of electronic communications, and advancing Cameroon’s digital transformation.
