TRB CONDUCTS REGULATORY REVIEW OF ORANGE CAMEROON

TRB CONDUCTS REGULATORY REVIEW OF ORANGE CAMEROON

On 22 and 23 October 2026, the Telecommunications Regulatory Board (TRB) is engaging Orange Cameroun in a rigorous review exercise aimed at measuring the gap between announced investments and their actual impact on Quality of Service (QoS).

In the face of a persistent deterioration in service quality, which continues to fuel growing customer dissatisfaction, the regulator is looking beyond routine reporting. Over the course of two days, the Board will conduct an in-depth assessment of the operator's achievements and examine its development prospects.

The findings are unequivocal. While the efforts made to date are tangible, they remain insufficient. Operators must do more to provide Cameroonians with reliable telecommunications services and a high-quality user experience.

This initiative forms part of a broader regulatory effort. Earlier this year in July, MTN Cameroon underwent a similar review. On 2 September, TRB Director General Professor Philémon Zoo Zame met with the CEOs of MTN Cameroon and Orange Cameroun to address key concerns raised by the public, including network access, service affordability, coverage, QoS, and Quality of Experience (QoE).

In Douala, the time has now come for evidence-based evaluation. The mission, which began on Thursday morning, is being conducted in the presence of several members of the TRB Board of Directors, including its Chairperson, Professor Justine Diffo née Tchunkam, underscoring the strategic importance of the exercise.
Discussions will focus on the financial evolution of the operator's investments, the technical assessment of measures implemented to expand network coverage and improve customer experience, the challenges associated with infrastructure deployment, as well as broader sectoral issues and future development prospects.

Friday, 23 October, will be dedicated to the customer experience dimension, which will entail reviewing users' expectations, examining Orange Cameroun’s concrete proposals, conducting a critical assessment and adopting a common roadmap. The TRB delegation will then visit Orange Cameroun’s Data Center to carry out on-site verification.

The objective is not to collect statements of intent, but to establish facts.
At the conclusion of the two-day review, TRB expects clear commitments, well-defined priorities, and a detailed implementation schedule subject to close monitoring. Restoring the confidence of Cameroonians in their telecommunications operators will depend on one thing above all: visible, measurable, and sustainable results.
