From 29 September to 2 October 2026, the Sawa Hotel in Douala is hosting the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Workshop on “Digital Regulation for Transformative Technologies in Africa.”

Professor Philémon Zoo Zame, Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Board (TRB), is participating in the workshop, which brings together around 100 stakeholders, institutions and regulators from 17 countries, with the support of the Islamic Development Bank and the Digital Regulatory Academy of the Saudi Communications Commission.

The workshop aims to support Central African regulators in their transition towards data-driven regulation, while adapting regulatory approaches to the rapid pace of technological innovation.
Discussions focus on key areas including collaborative regulation, artificial intelligence, regulatory sandboxes, data governance and cybersecurity.

The participation of the TRB Director General underscores the institution’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and advancing modern, innovation-friendly digital regulation, in line with its guiding principle: “Regulation is facilitation.”
