Spectrum Oversight: TRB Demands Stronger Networks

The Telecommunications Regulatory Board (TRB) launched an extensive spectrum monitoring campaign in Yaoundé, an operation scheduled to run until August 9. Its core objective: to compel operators to enhance network quality and ensure subscribers receive services that meet established standards.
Behind this initiative lies a resolute determination: the TRB intends to hold industry players accountable for improving both Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) delivered to consumers. Technical teams from the Board, joined by representatives of operators such as CAMTEL, immediately set out for Douala, Yaoundé, and Bafoussam to verify frequency compliance and assess the actual performance of mobile networks. Inspections focus on call fluidity, connection stability, and adherence to contractual commitments made to users.
Presiding over the launch, Mr. Mohamadou Awallou, TRB’s Technical Advisor N°1, emphasized on the fact that these inspections are far from a mere administrative exercise; they constitute a powerful regulatory instrument. The Board is determined to ensure that contractual obligations do not remain empty promises, and that consumers finally benefit from reliable services aligned with international benchmarks. By intensifying checks and tightening oversight, the TRB is pressing operators to invest more heavily in infrastructure and deliver a superior user experience.
This 2026 spectrum monitoring campaign thus sends a clear signal to the sector: tolerance for shortcomings has reached its limit. For operators, improving network quality is no longer a matter of choice, it is now an unequivocal obligation.
