HIGH-LEVEL TALKS BETWEEN TRB AND MTN CAMEROON ON QoS & QoE

HIGH-LEVEL TALKS BETWEEN TRB AND MTN CAMEROON ON QoS & QoE

From 21 to 23 July 2026, the Telecommunications Regulatory Board (TRB) and the concessionary operator MTN Cameroon are holding a series of technical consultations in the conference hall of the Golden K Hotel in Kribi, dedicated to enhancing both the Quality of Service (QoS) and the Quality of Experience (QoE) for users across Cameroon.

This high level meeting is jointly chaired by the Director General of the TRB, Professor Philémon Zoo Zame, and the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Cameroon, Wanda Matandela, who together elevate these discussions to the highest level of institutional responsibility. The Chairperson of the TRB Board of Directors, Professor Justine Diffo née Tchunkam, is attending the sessions alongside several Board members, underscoring the full involvement of the Agency’s governing bodies in this strategic initiative.

Throughout the deliberations, MTN Cameroon’s leadership presents TRB with a detailed overview of the investments carried out during the 2025 financial year, as well as those already deployed since the beginning of 2026, particularly during the first half of the year. They also outline the additional actions planned for the second semester of 2026, all aimed at further strengthening network coverage and improving the quality of services delivered to subscribers. This comprehensive review of ongoing and upcoming efforts enables both parties to assess the operator’s improvement trajectory and to gauge its alignment with the expectations of the regulator and public authorities.

Discussions also focus on enhancing overall connectivity and reinforcing TRB’s monitoring mechanisms across all of MTN Cameroon’s technical operations, ensuring that the corrective measures announced translate into tangible and lasting improvements for users, beyond the short term actions already implemented.

This consultation forms part of the sustained effort led by TRB for nearly four years, following recommendations from the Government, to intensify a regular and demanding dialogue with all sector operators on QoS. It reflects the shared determination of both parties to move beyond temporary fixes and to build structural solutions that meet the legitimate and growing expectations of Cameroonian consumers.

At the conclusion of these sessions, TRB reaffirms its commitment to maintaining rigorous oversight of the implementation of its recommendations and of the commitments undertaken, in line with its mission to safeguard user interests and promote a high performing, reliable telecommunications sector.
