TRB’s Visit to the Nigerian Communications Commission

TRB’s Visit to the Nigerian Communications Commission

TRB carried out a benchmarking and study visit to the Nigerian Communications Commission on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and exchange best regulatory practices in the telecommunications sector. The opening session was led by Dr. Aminu Maida, who is the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the NCC  alongside TRB’s Director General, Professor Philemon Zoo Zame.

Both officials emphasized on cooperation, knowledge sharing, and stronger collaboration between the two institutions.

During the opening ceremony, the two leaders set the tone for the work sessions by outlining the objectives and guidelines for the engagement. A symbolic exchange of gifts also took place, reflecting the spirit of partnership between TRB and the NCC.

The technical sessions that followed focused on the regulatory framework for commercial innovative services, consumer protection and security in satellite services, the adoption of a consumer code of practice for non-traditional network models, and compliance and enforcement. These themes align with the NCC’s published regulatory framework on consumer code of practice.

Overall, the visit gave TRB a valuable opportunity to learn from the NCC’s regulatory experience and to identify areas for future cooperation. It also helped TRB better understand how the NCC structures regulation around consumer protection, service security, and compliance, which can support stronger institutional practices going forward.
